More feel. More flight.
A new multiplayer backbone, sharper yaw, and a fix for low-FPS floatiness. Plus a look at where the map is heading next.
In the very first official Flight Division changelog we bring a new network backbone and more responsive flight, with a bigger playground on the way.
A new multiplayer backbone
Multiplayer in Flight Division now uses a dedicated, persistent connection to share pilots’ positions instead of repeatedly asking the database for updates. That takes live flight traffic off the database and gives multiplayer more room to grow.
- Live positions use the new relay. The rollout is complete, and the old position-sharing path has been retired.
- Keep flying through a connection hiccup. Local flight continues if the multiplayer connection drops, while the game attempts to reconnect.
- Less background work. Public assets and the shop catalog also benefit from caching improvements.
Long story short: The servers will stop getting destroyed every time we get some traffic (for now).
Sharper yaw, less low-FPS floatiness
Yaw should feel more direct when you start a turn and when you let go of the stick. We tightened its response and adjusted damping to keep the stronger response controlled. Your pilot rates and roll/pitch tuning stay the same.
We also found a specific cause of floatiness: at lower frame rates, the physics clock could fall behind real time. That slowed both gravity and control response. Physics now keeps pace at steady frame rates down to 15 FPS.
- Quicker yaw response and stops. In our freestyle test at 20% yaw stick, response time dropped from about 67 ms to 50 ms, and stopping time from about 71 ms to 50 ms. These are physics measurements, not radio-to-screen latency.
- Consistent falling at lower frame rates. The fix addresses the confirmed physics slowdown without changing gravity, drone mass, or thrust.
This addresses one confirmed source of floatiness. We’re still interested in how throttle cuts, drift, and stick response feel on your setup.
Coming next: a much bigger map
Our map is getting a lot more room to fly. The planned expansion includes a park and a supermarket, opening up more places to explore and find new lines. The goal of this update is to bring new spots rip tiny whoops in.
The larger map and these new spots will be coming in a second, separate rollout.
Changelogs have landed
You’re reading the first one. Flight Division now has a dedicated home for updates, with a page for each release so you can catch up on changes or share a specific update with a friend.
