Race Day
All leaderboards and personal bests are reset. Races get a real home: entrance markers, per-drone leaderboards, ghosts, a racing line, and races on your own maps.
All leaderboards and personal bests are reset
Every leaderboard and every personal best has been reset, effective immediately.
The old boards were polluted by overpowered drones from very early versions of Flight Division, and those times could not be beaten fairly. Everyone starts from zero on the new boards. Time to set some new records.
Races
Time attacks have been rebuilt from the ground up into proper races. This update is all about racing, with a few treats for the menus on the side.
Race entrances
Every race now has an entrance on the map: a holographic flag above a ring on the ground. Fly into the ring to open the race setup.
From the Race Setup you can:
- Pick your drone. Any of the five models, shown with your own skin and colors.
- Check the boards. Each drone now has its own Leaderboard.
- Choose your ghosts. Race against up to any other 3 Opponents from the Leaderboards.
A better start and finish
When you hit Start or Retry, your drone now hovers in place above the start pad. The right stick tilts it so you can line up, and the drone launches once you raise the throttle. A stick already sitting high when you respawn won't send you flying by accident.
The clock, the recording and your ghosts all start together at the first gate. When you cross the finish, the camera holds on your run for a moment before the results show up. Results stay open until you pick what to do next: Retry, change ghosts, or switch drone.
Racing line
A thin line now runs from the start pad through every gate in order, so you always know where the next gate is.
Prefer to find your own lines? Turn it off in Settings under Racing line.
Leaving the race
Fly too far from the course and a Leaving the race warning kicks in, with an arrow pointing to the gate you still owe. You get a five-second countdown to turn back. Head back toward the course and the countdown refills. Let it run out and you drop back into free flight.
Ghosts
Ghosts got a new look. Each one leaves a bright, glowing trail in its own race color, so you can tell them apart even when they're far ahead of you (which never happens to you, right?).
Ghosts also keep the drone and skin they were recorded with, so the run you're chasing looks exactly like it did.
Challenge a pilot
Pilot profiles have been redesigned. Open anyone's profile to see their drones, flight time, XP and personal bests, filtered by drone or across all of them. Hit Challenge on any personal best to jump straight into that race against their exact run.
Races on your own maps
You can now build races on your personal maps in the map editor's Time attacks folder. Place your gates, set the order, then hit Publish race. Published races get the same leaderboards, personal bests and ghosts as the official ones.
- Up to 2 races per map and 20 gates per race.
- Changing the gates of a published race resets its leaderboard. The editor warns you first and asks you to confirm before saving. Renaming the race or editing the rest of the map keeps the boards.
Player races don't award XP, Credits, achievements or challenge progress.
New race gates
Race and lesson gates have a new model. Gates near the ground stand on legs and ballast, and higher gates float on thruster pods. Watch out: the legs, ballast and pods are solid.
Gates can also be rotated freely now, so expect tilted gates, climbs and dives in future races.
New home screen drone
Your drone now flies onto the home screen and lands, and takes off again when you head into the sim. The Gear and profile screens show your drone on the same 3D stage.
Slow-mo drone swap
Closing the drone selection wheel now eases you back into the action. The world resumes in slow motion and speeds back up to real time over about a second, so you have a moment to recover after a fast swap mid-air.
